Mastery: If They Can Achieve It, So Can You

Issue No. 23 | June 5th, 2023 | Read Time: 3 Minutes

Happy Monday Everyone!

We all have someone we aspire to be.

And typically, it's someone who's a master at the very thing you're working on right now.

Are you an aspiring writer? Then you probably look up to Dickie Bush. Are you an aspiring affiliate marketer? Then you likely look up to Pat Flynn. Or are you trying to become an author? Then Tim Ferris or James Clear might be a big inspiration to you.

What I'm getting at is that there are influential figures in every niche imaginable. Whatever you're working on, there's someone out there who's succeeded before you.

But on some level, we feel this sense of jealousy or even resentment because unconsciously we believe that their success is shining a spotlight on our missed opportunities.

Or in some cases, deep down we believe in scarcity and lack of resources. That there isn't enough money or success for everyone and that we might have missed the cutoff.

Thankfully, this couldn't be any farther from the truth.

You have to switch your perspective and not look at these successful people with envy but look at them as a primary source of inspiration and nothing else.

This entire newsletter idea actually came from a lesson that Marcus Aurelius wrote down nearly 2,000 years ago.

It was a lesson for those who are currently working on something that might seem insurmountable and how you can gain the inspiration to overcome it:

"Don't assume it's impossible because you find it hard. But to recognize that if it's humanly possible, you can do it too."

Get excited about the fact that someone else achieved what you're working on. Every time you see a new best-selling author or a new digital marketer talking about how they made $20,000 last month, be happy for them because it means that it's achievable. And the best thing about there being someone who's succeeded before you is that you can learn from their mistakes. Study their lives and figure out exactly what they did to reach the top.Because if they can do it, so can you.

Until next time,

Isaiah Taylor
