3-Minute Mastery: The Biggest Comeback
Issue No. 111 | February 10th, 2025
I think it’s only fitting that today I take the time to share a story about a Super Bowl game.
Whether you watched the game yesterday or not, you’ve probably at least heard about the Philadelphia Eagles beating the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite them winning the last two Super Bowls and having a greater odds of winning, the Eagles showed up and played a game the world wanted to see.
For this game in particular, the Eagles had too much of a lead for the Chiefs to come back. But it got me wondering, what Super Bowl had the greatest comeback in history? Surprisingly, it was only eight years ago.
At Super Bowl LI in 2017, the New England Patriots led by Tom Brady were up against the Atlanta Falcons. By the third quarter, the Falcons had built a lead of 28-3. At this point, everyone started to assume the game was over. No one had ever seen a comeback like this during a Super Bowl game.
But instead of giving in, the Patriots decided to take it one play at a time. Slowly and surely, the Patriots came back. And with the remainder of the third quarter and the fourth, the Patriots scored three touchdowns bringing them to a tied game.
Another record was then broken for the first Super Bowl to go into overtime.
Having won the coin toss, the Patriots got the ball first and used the opportunity to score one more touchdown, finishing the game in a historic 34-28 victory.
Honestly, I’ve never been a big football fan. But it’s hard to deny the thrill you experience whenever you watch a good game. Let alone one that makes history.
Especially whenever you get to see first-hand a team that refuses to give up. A team that doesn’t listen to what the crowd has to say and doesn’t give in until the clock strikes zero.
I think we can learn something from the Patriots and realize that no matter how far behind you are, there’s always a chance to comeback. That the game isn’t over until you say it’s over.
At the end of the day, resilience beats talent. So don’t get discouraged if you think you’re behind your friends or those you see online. We all run at our own pace, your Super Bowl win is coming.
Until next time,
Isaiah Taylor
