3-Minute Mastery: My Favorite Laws

Issue No. 188 | August 9th, 2026

Have you ever read The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene?

If you haven’t, it’s one of the most classic books on deception, manipulation, emotional control, and exploitation to name a few.

For those very reasons, it’s banned in all correctional systems in 18 states and some countries around the world.

But Greene didn’t write this book with the intention to create a new era of deceptive people. Rather, to protect you against them. To know how to spot, recognize, and avoid coercion.

However, there are some laws that are valuable to adopt. Some that revolve around bettering your mind, your social presence, and mastering your emotions.

With that in mind, here are three of my favorite laws that can apply to anyones well-being:

Law 4: Always Say Less Than Necessary

Here, Greene shares the idea that words are powerful. And once they’re said, there’s no taking them back. That every word should be spoken with intent, and the momentary satisfaction you gain by sharing what you’re doing, boasting about yourself, or over explaining something will be outweighed by the price you pay.

Law 5: So Much Depends On Reputation — Guard It With Your Life

Our reputation is something that can take a lifetime to build, but a moment to destroy. It’s the one quality that instills others faith in you. The quality that will showcase your true nature to those around you. With that, work on your generosity, honesty, and loyalty to those who matter.

Law 9: Win Through Your Actions, Never Through Argument

Just like in law four, words are powerful. But they also can’t convince a person entirely. With that, you must learn to back them with action. As Greene says, demonstrate, do not explicate.

These three laws are only a fraction of the 48 that lie in Greenes book. If you wish to protect yourself from people who wish to deceive and manipulate you—which let’s be honest, is inevitable—then I couldn’t recommend this book enough.

Until next time,
Isaiah Taylor
