3-Minute Mastery: Learn To Expect It
Issue No. 187 | August 3rd, 2026
Has someone ever talked down to you, or maybe even just gave you a sly remark and it stuck with you all day?
And why wouldn’t it? You go through the rest of your day wondering what you should’ve said differently. What you did wrong. What they did wrong.
After having many of these conversations myself, I’ve realized that they’re inevitable. That in a world of people with their own opinions, lives, and stories, you’re bound to come across people who are just waiting to snap on the next person they see.
That’s why you should learn to expect it.
The Stoics talked about this a lot. That every morning you should wake up with the notion that there will be people you’ll meet that will be unruly, cruel, and unforgiving. But it’s when you learn to expect it, that the blow becomes softened whenever you’re met with that opposition.
It’s not that you’re necessarily assuming you will meet these people, but it’s an ancient case of prepare for the worst, expect the best type of scenario.
I can only hope that you don’t come across these people. But understanding how to protect your mind against it when the time comes is a habit more valuable than any other.
It’s not about not caring what others think. It’s about not letting negative thoughts enter your own.
So live every day prepared. Live every day with intention. And don’t let someones bad day become yours.
Until next time,
Isaiah Taylor
