3-Minute Mastery: Clip The Branches Of Your Life

Issue No. 170 | April 6th, 2026

Today makes one week since It’s Not As Bad As You Think was released. For a lot of authors, they find themselves looking back at what they should’ve added or changed. For me, I can’t seem to stop thinking about all the things I took out.

Stories. Additional chapters. Scientific studies and more strategies to overcoming anxiety and overthinking.

And I didn’t take them out because I thought they were bad. But more because it took away from the things that actually mattered.

It applies to our own lives as well. Living an intentional and purposeful life isn’t about getting this or adding that, it’s removing the things that don’t enhance your well-being to make room for those that do.

Think of it like a gardener pruning a tree. To the average person, they might see a healthy branch. But to the gardener, they see a branch hindering the growth of others. And so, they clip it.

At first, the tree might look worse. But through time and patience, it’ll only grow back stronger, fuller, and more beautiful.

Whether it’s your job, social media, or an unsupportive friend; giving yourself the grace to make the hard decision and remove something out of your life is one of the most powerful things you can do.

And let’s say you have something that on the surface doesn’t seem that bad, remember this quotation by John D. Rockefeller:

“Don’t be afraid to give up the good to go for the great.”

John D. Rockefeller

Because when you make room for more, you’re not just creating emptiness. You’re creating space for the opportunity to receive.

Until next time,
Isaiah Taylor
